Top 5 Winter Jacket Trends for 2023

I’ve always struggled to find cute winter jackets that look good while being able to withstand a Canadian winter. I want to up my style game this year without freezing my ass off in -20 degree weather, so I compiled a list of trendy but warm coats that (mostly) won’t break the budget. Here are my top five favourite winter jacket trends for 2023:

1. Sherpa-Lined Leather Jackets

Okay I saw Kylie Jenner wearing a sherpa-lined leather jacket a couple weeks ago, and I’m not usually one to go crazy over a Kardashian/Jenner outfit but as soon as I saw that picture I knew I had to find a similar one. This style is so cool but also classy at the same time, and the addition of the sherpa lining means you’ll still be able to stay warm. These jackets might be a bit more of an investment, but getting the leather/lining combo just right is important so it may be better to splurge on this style.

2. Leather Trench Coats

I LOVE the look of these long leather trench coats. You can pair it with a skirt & boots for a night out or dress it down with a matching sweat suit underneith. Its a different spin on the standard leather jacket, keeping you a bit warmer while maintaining the sleek look. I think its a cool way to add a bit more drama to a casual outfit.

3. Long Wool Coats

This isn’t a new trend, but you can never go wrong with a nice wool coat. I particularily like the lighter colours, leaning more towards the creams and beiges. Again, these coats are so versitile you can dress them up or down. I love the look of a sweater and jeans underneith with a beanie or a baseball cap for more of a casual but still put together look.

4. Cropped Super Puffs

These cropped puffer jackets are another staple. I like the versions that aren’t too cropped (cause then whats the point?) but just enough to cinch your waist while still keeping you warm. You can find these in every colour in the rainbow, and they’re everywhere! Personally, I would dress up my activewear if I needed to go somewhere after the gym or with a onepiece bodysuit and some sneakers (for those days where theres no snow on the ground lol.)

5. Quilted Coats

Quilted coats have been popping up everywhere this year. I love anything that reminds me of my bed, and these duvet-like coats seem like such a cozy addition to any wardrobe. I personally prefer the look of shorter quilted jackets to avoid looking like you’re actually wearing your bedding, but fashion runways have been featuring a long-line version this year. Whatever your preference, you can find them all over online!
