Enter Your Glow-Up Era: The Ultimate Guide
I don’t know about you, but I’m ready to make 2025 my glow-up era. The start of a new year always feels like a clean slate, but this year I really want to level-up. If you’re tired of feeling stuck, uninspired, or just not loving who you are right now, you’re feeling the exact same way as me. But 2025 is the year I’m changing all of that. It’s time to reinvent yourself, to feel excited about life again, and finally become the woman you’re meant to be.
So, what exactly is a glow-up era? It’s not just about looks (although let’s admit it, when you look better you feel more confident in yourself). It’s about transforming every part of your life- your mindset, health, career, finances, personal style, and confidence- and stepping into your full potential. It’s about taking control and saying goodbye to the version of yourself that didn’t know her worth.
I’ve also nicknamed this new era my “revenge era” except my previous enemy is my past self. That girl who didn’t believe in herself, the one who doubted every move and decision, the one that wasted her life away sitting on the couch scrolling Tiktok. I’m proving the old me wrong and becoming exactly who I’ve always wanted to be.
I’m 29, staring down the big 3-0, and I’ve realized I don’t want to drag old insecurities, habits, or doubts into this new decade of my life. I’m done feeling lost or stuck in a version of myself I don’t love. Instead, I want to walk into this new chapter feeling confident, motivated, and ready to take on anything. And that’s why I’m committed to my glow-up era- it’s my way of rewriting the narrative and becoming the best version of me.
I’m creating the ultimate guide for you and me to glow-up in 2025. It covers everything you need, from building a mindset that attracts success to revamping your health, finances, career and personal style. Whether it’s finding a workout routine you love, learning to set boundaries, or curating a wardrobe that makes you feel unstoppable, this guide will help you transform your life!
Your glow-up era is waiting. Let’s make 2025 the year we take control and thrive. Are you ready?
Mindset Makeover: The Foundation of Your Glow-Up Era
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in my 29 years, it’s that you can’t transform your life without first transforming your mindset. Your glow-up era doesn’t begin with a new workout routine or a wardrobe update- it begins in your head. Trust me, I’ve tried skipping the mindset work before, and the changes never lasted. To truly reinvent yourself, you need to build a strong mental foundation first.
Your mindset is like the engine that drives every other transformation in your life. It determines how you approach your goals, handle setbacks, and stick to new habits. Without it, it’s easy to fall back into old routines and self-doubt. For me, entering my glow-up era is about more than just making external changes- its about breaking free from years of negative self-talk and the belief that I couldn’t change.
1. Setting Clear Goals: The Roadmap to Success
You can’t glow up without knowing what you’re glowing up to. One of the most important parts of a mindset makeover is setting clear, actionable goals that keep you focused and motivated.
Start With Your “Why”
Before you do anything, you’re going to sit down and envision your dream life. Where are you? What are you doing? Who are you with? What do you look like? Write down every detail you can think of and imagine how you feel as that person. This dream life that you’ve written down is what you’re going to strive for.
You also need to think about why you want to change. For me, it’s not about impressing anyone else or achieving some unrealistic idea of perfection. My why is about feeling proud of myself and proving my old self wrong. I want to wake up every day feeling excited about my life and the person I’m becoming. Your why is personal, and it’s what will keep you moving forward when your initial motivation fades.
Break It Down Into Steps
You may have some big goals, but simply saying “I want to get healthy” won’t help you achieve anything. Write down your big goals, and then break them down into smaller goals. For example, if your big goal is to “get healthy” you could start with “I want to improve my flexibility” or “I want to drink more water.” Both of these goals will help you get healthy, but they’re smaller goals that will help you take action. You can then break these down even further to monthly, weekly, and daily tasks that will help you achieve your bigger goals.
Revisit Your Goals Regularly
Goals aren’t something you set once and then forget about. At the beginning of each month, take time to revisit your larger goals and the smaller goals you created to reach those big goals. Make a plan that fits into your month- maybe you have a really busy month with birthdays or events and that could affect the time you have available or the budget you’re setting for yourself. Make sure your goals are aligned with your real life- this will make it easier to achieve and stay motivated. At the end of each month, reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and adjust as needed.
Write Them Down
There’s something powerful about putting your goals on paper. Write them down where you can see them every day- on sticky notes, in a planner, or even in a journal. Seeing your goals in writing makes them feel real and helps you stay accountable.
2. Creating a Vision Board: Seeing is Believing
I love vision boards. I make one every year to hype me up to reach my goals. It’s so motivating to have a visualization of that dream life you wrote down in the first section. It has always helped clear my mind and set my intentions.
Why Vision Boards Work
A vision board is like a snapshot of your ideal life. It helps you stay focused on your goals by giving you something tangible to look at every day. For me, my vision board includes everything from outfits I want to try to destinations I want to visit to empowering quotes that fire me up when I’m feeling stuck.
How to Make Yours
Set aside some time to create your board. You can go old-school with magazines, scissors and glue, or you can create a digital version using Canva or Pinterest. Choose images and words that represent your goals and dreams. The key is to be specific- don’t just slap a random photo of a beach on there. Pick a destination you’ve always wanted to visit and imagine yourself there.
Digital Vision Boards
I prefer a more tech-savvy approach and I create vision boards online. Pinterest is my go-to tool for this because you can save specific images that resonate with your goals. Plus, I love that I’m able to continuously add to my vision board as the year goes on- different seasons bring different feelings and goals, and I love being able to adjust slightly as those times come. Plus, it helps me revisit my goals often which keep up my motivation!
Keep it Visible
The trick to a vision board is keeping it somewhere you’ll see it every day. For physical boards, place them on your desk, your fridge, or a prominent spot in your bedroom. If you’ve created a digital board, set it as your phone or laptop background. I love having mine on my lock screen- it’s a constant reminder of what I’m working towards.
3. Meditation and Journaling: Tools for Mental Clarity
If you’ve ever thought meditation or journaling wasn’t for you, I get it- I used to feel the same way. But once I started using these tools, they completely shifted how I approached my days.
Meditation for Mental Clarity
Meditation doesn’t have to mean sitting cross-legged on the floor for hours. I started with just five minutes a day, using guided meditation videos on YouTube. There are a ton of peaceful, beginner-friendly meditations for everything from stress relief to setting intentions. Now, it’s one of my favourite parts of my daily morning routine- it’s like a mini reset button for my mind!
Journaling for Self-Discovery
Journaling is like having a conversation with your self. It helps me sort through my thoughts, identify patterns, and process my emotions. I incorporate tarot readings with my journals to help me reflect (more on that in the next section) but you could use prompts like:
- What’s one thing I’m grateful for today?
- What limiting beliefs are holding me back?
- What does my dream life look like?
Writing down my thoughts and reflecting on the previous day helps me stay connected to my goals and reminds me how far I’ve come.
4. Exploring Tarot and Shadow Work: Digging Deeper
This might sound a little out there for some of you, but incorporating tarot cards and shadow work into my daily routine has been surprisingly transformative.
Tarot for Daily Guidance and Reflection
I started pulling a daily tarot card as a way to reflect and set intentions. It’s not about predicting the future- it’s about connecting with yourself and focusing on what you need. For example, pulling the Strength card reminds me to stay resilient, while the Fool encourages me to take risks and trust the process. There are 72 cards in a tarot deck, and everyone can find some way to find meaning in each one of those cards from their own experiences. These pulls can help you get in tune with your emotions, your needs, and your current mindset.
What is Shadow Work?
Shadow work involves exploring the parts of yourself that you often avoid or suppress- your fears, insecurities, and doubts. It’s about shining a light on these “shadows” to better understand and heal them. For example, if you find yourself procrastinating on your goals, shadow work might reveal a deeper fear of failure or a belief that you’re not good enough.
By addressing your shadow self you can break free from patterns that are holding you back. It’s a way to release old baggage and make room for growth. Shadow work isn’t about judgement- it’s about self-compassion and understanding.
Confidence Glow-Up: Unlocking Your Inner Power
If there’s one thing that can truly transform you in your glow-up era, it’s confidence. Confidence is the secret sauce that makes everything you do feel more powerful- whether it’s walking into a room, tackling your goals, or simply deciding you deserve more. For me, confidence didn’t always come naturally- and it still doesn’t! It took a lot of trial and error (and a lot of “fake it till you make it”) to start building that inner belief in myself. But here’s the thing: confidence isn’t something you’re born with. It’s a skill, and just like any skill, it can be learned.
Your glow-up era is about more than just looking good or achieving external goals- it’s about transforming how you feel about yourself. Confidence is what ties it all together. Without it, it’s easy to second-guess your self or let self-doubt hold you back. I realized that a lack of confidence was at the root of so many things I struggled with: saying no to things I don’t want, hesitating to take opportunities, and constantly comparing myself to others.
The good new? Confidence can be built, little by little, until it feels like second nature. And once you have it, it’s a game-changer!
1. Fake it Until You Make it: The Confidence Starter Pack
I know it sounds cliché, but “fake it till you make it” is a real thing. Going into this glow-up era, I feel anything but confident. But instead of waiting to magically feel self-assured, I’m going to start acting like the confident version of myself.
How it Works
Your brain doesn’t always know the difference between real confidence and pretend confidence. When you act confident- standing tall, speaking with conviction, and making eye contact- you start to feel more confident. It’s like your action trick your mind into believing you’ve got it all together.
What I’m Doing
I’m making small changes that will add up over time:
- Standing up straight instead of slouching (this is such a bad habit of mine!)
- Speaking up in conversations, even when I feel shy and especially in groups.
- Smiling more- it’s amazing how much this can change how others perceive you and how you feel about yourself.
At first, its going to feel awkward. But over time, those small acts of pretending will start to feel natural, and it will shift how you carry yourself.
2. Building True Confidence: Small Wins Every Day
Faking it is a great starting point, but building true, lasting confidence comes from within. It’s about proving to yourself, over and over again, that you’re capable and worthy. For me, this starts with small, manageable wins.
Celebrating the Little Things
Remember when we broke our goals down into smaller, easier to accomplish goals? Now it’s time to celebrate those small wins. When I first started working on my confidence, I made a point to acknowledge even the smallest accomplishments. Did I stick to my workout today? Win! Did I wear the outfit I’ve been too nervous to try? Win! Did I have a tough conversation I’ve been avoiding? Win! Those small victories add up, creating a snowball effect that boosts your self-esteem over time.
Step Out of Your Comfort Zone
True confidence comes from doing the things that scare you. For me, that means speaking up in meetings, reaching out to people I admired, and- most recently- leaving my phone number for a crush (something I never would have done a year ago!) Was it terrifying? Absolutely. But every time I push myself, I feel stronger and more capable.
3. The “Don’t Chase, Attract” Mindset
One of the biggest shifts I want to make in my glow-up era is adopting the “don’t chase, attract” mindset. This idea is all about focusing on your own growth and trusting that the right people and opportunities will come to you.
Letting Go of Desperation
Take advice from the wonderful Sabrina Carpenter and don’t relate to desperation! In the past, I wasted so much energy chasing things- friendships, relationships, jobs- that didn’t align with me. When I stopped trying to force outcomes and instead poured that energy into myself, everything started to shift. I began attracting the right connections, opportunities, and experiences simply by being true to myself.
How to Embrace This Mindset
- Focus on your goals and passions instead of external validation
- Set boundaries and stop settling for less than you deserve
- Trust that what’s meant for you won’t pass you by
This mindset takes practice, but it’s incredibly freeing. It’s a reminder that you’re already worth- you don’t need to prove it to anyone.
4. Positive Self-Talk: Becoming Your Own Hype Woman
I can be my own worst critic. If I make a mistake, I’ll replay it in my head for hours, telling myself I’m not good enough or that I’ll never get it right. But during this glow-up era, I know that if I want to build confidence I need to change the way I talk to myself.
The Power of Words
Your inner dialogue matters more than you think. If you’re constantly tearing yourself down, you’re reinforcing those negative beliefs. But when you start speaking to yourself with kindness and encouragement, you create a foundation for confidence to grow.
How to Change Your Self-Talk
- Reframe Negative Thoughts: Instead of “I’m so bad at this,” say “I’m learning, and that’s okay.”
- Use Affirmations: Every morning, look in the mirror and say things like “I am capable,” “I am worthy,” and “I’m growing every day.”
- Catch Yourself: When a negative thought creeps in, stop yourself and ask “Would I say this to a friend?” If the answer is no, rephrase it into something more supportive.
At first, it will feel weird. But over time, it will become second nature, and you’ll notice a big difference in how you feel about yourself.
5. Confidence is a Muscle: Keep Working on It
Building confidence is like working out- it takes time and consistent effort, but the results are so worth it. Every time I step out of my comfort zone, celebrate a win, or silence my inner critic, I’m strengthening that confidence muscle. And the more you practice, the easier it gets!
Your glow-up era is the perfect time to focus on your confidence. Whether it’s faking it until you make it, celebrating small wins, or letting go of desperate energy, every step you take will bring you closer to becoming the bold, self-assured version of yourself. Remember: confidence isn’t about being perfect- it’s about believing you’re worthy, flaws and all.
Health Glow-Up: Revitalizing Your Body
When I started to think about my glow-up era, health is one of the first areas I knew I needed to tackle. Let’s be honest- it’s hard to feel good about anything else in your life if your body isn’t feeling its best. But when I say “health,” I’m not just talking about crash diets or hours in the gym. This is about finding a routine that makes you feel strong, energized, and confident in your own skin. It’s about discovering what works for you and sticking with it because it feels good- not because you’re forcing yourself to meet someone else’s standard.
Your health is the foundation of everything you do. When you’re taking care of your body, you’re not just glowing on the outside- you’re glowing from within. During my own glow-up journey, I have realized how much my physical health affects my energy levels, mood, and even confidence. I’m not saying it’s easy to make changes (trust me, I love my couch and UberEats as much as anyone), but once I started prioritizing my health, everything else began to fall into place.
1. Find a Workout That Works for You
One of the biggest mistakes I used to make was forcing myself to do workouts I hated. I’d drag myself to the gym, miserable the whole time, and then wonder why I couldn’t stick with it. With starting this glow-up era, I’m making it a point to experiment with different types of exercise until I find things I actually enjoy.
What I’m Trying
- Walking on the Treadmill: Walking on the treadmill by itself is boring. Instead, find something to entertain yourself and get you on that machine. Personally, I use my Kindle and I have a book I can only read while on the treadmill. I always get so excited to keep reading that I’m more motivated to walk or to extend my workout. You could do the same thing with a show or a movie if that’s more your style.
- Pilates and Yoga: These are great for building strength and flexibility without feeling overly intense. Plus, they’re super calming!
- At-Home Workout Videos: I’m not always in the mood to leave the house, so having a few go-to Youtube channels to grab a workout video from has been a lifesaver. You can find kickboxing workouts, full-body routines, and even dance workouts!
- Fitness Classes: Sometimes, the energy of a group setting is exactly what you need to push yourself! My goal is to check out more local classes this year- and maybe make some new friends!
The key is to find what excites you. When you enjoy your workouts, they stop feeling like a chore and start becoming something you look forward to!
2. The Power of Stretching and Flexibility
When I first started focusing on my health, I completely underestimated the importance of stretching. I used to think it was just something you did before a workout, but now it’s a regular part of my routine. Not only does it help with flexibility and recovery, but it also feels amazing- like hitting a reset button on my body.
What I Do:
- Morning Stretching Routine: I spend 5-10 minutes each morning doing light stretches to wake up my muscles. It’s a gentle way to start the day and get my body moving.
- Post-Workout Stretching: After a walk or workout, I make sure to spend a few minutes stretching to avoid stiffness.
- Flexibility Challenges: I’ve started incorporating small flexibility goals (I really want to be able to do the splits) and it’s been so satisfying to see progress!
Stretching isn’t just about improving how your body moves- it’s about taking a moment to slow down and care for yourself. And in your glow-up era, that’s a big deal!
3. Nutrition That Fuels Your Glow-Up
Let’s be real: healthy eating can feel overwhelming. Between meal prepping, grocery shopping, and resisting the urge to order takeout, it can seem like a full-time job. For this glow-up era, I’m learning that the key isn’t perfection- it’s finding a system that works for your lifestyle.
Meal Prep You’ll Actually Eat
I used to avoid meal prep because I thought it meant eating boring chicken and broccoli all week. But when I started prepping meals I genuinely enjoyed, everything changed. Now, I focus on easy, flavourful recipes that are quick to grab during the week. Pinterest has been my go-to for inspiration (check out my Pinterest for some ideas!)
I’ve also made a guide to Creating a Meal Prep Routine You’ll Actually Stick To with tips and tricks I’ve learned through trying and completely failing to stick to my own meal prep routine. Check it out!
Meal Delivery Services
I’m not going to lie, I really don’t like to cook. Meal prepping can be great when I’m motivated, but if not it’s incredibly difficult to make myself food. And that’s okay! Meal delivery services like Hello Fresh or Factor meals have been lifesavers on busy weeks. They take the guesswork out of healthy eating and keep me from reaching for fast food when I’m too tired to make dinner.
Incorporating Vitamins
I never realized how much vitamins could improve my overall health until I made them part of my routine. For example, taking a high-quality multivitamin has helped me feel more energized, and adding Vitamin D has been a game-changer for my mood (especially during those long, dark winters). Make sure you do your research before starting anything and/or talk to your doctor!
4. Building a Sustainable Routine
The most important part of a health glow-up isn’t about making drastic changes- it’s about building a routine you can stick with. During my glow-up era, I’m focusing on creating small, sustainable habits that can become part of my everyday life.
Start Small
Instead of overhauling everything at once, I’m starting with one or two changes at a time. For example, I’m committing to drinking more water each day and adding a 30-minute walk into my routine. Once those habits feel solid, I’ll build on them!
Make it Fun
Health doesn’t have to be boring. I use cute water bottles to remind myself to stay hydrated, treat myself to workout clothes I feel good in, and make playlists that keep me energized during workouts. Little things like this can make a big difference.
Celebrate Your Progress
It’s easy to get caught up in how far you have to go, but don’t forget to celebrate how far you’ve come! Whether it’s hitting a new fitness milestone, cooking a healthy meal, or simply showing up for yourself, every step forward is worth acknowledging.
Financial Glow-Up: Taking Control of Your Money
When I started thinking of my glow-up era plan, another huge area I knew I needed to tackle was my finances. Money has a way of affecting so many other parts of your life- your confidence, your freedom, and even your ability to enjoy the little things. For years, I felt like my finances were running me instead of the other way around. But stepping into my glow-up era means taking control and being intentional about how I manage and grow my money. And let me tell you, there’s nothing more empowering than feeling financially confident.
Whether you’re trying to pay off debt, save for something big, or just stop feeling stressed every time you check your bank account, this financial glow-up plan will help you get there.
1. Set Financial Goals That Align With Your Glow-Up Era
When it comes to a financial glow-up, the first step is figuring out what you want. What does financial success look like for you? For me, it’s about more than just paying bills or building a rainy-day fund- I wanted to feel secure and have the freedom to treat myself without guilt.
Start With Your Why
Just like your other glow-up goals, your why is your anchor. Maybe you’re saving for a dream trip, a new car, or just to stop living paycheque to paycheque. Whatever it is, get clear on why this matters to you. For me, my why is the freedom to say yes to things that bring me joy, whether it’s taking a spontaneous weekend trip or upgrading my wardrobe.
Break It Down
Big financial goals can feel overwhelming, just like any other goal. So, break them down into smaller, actionable steps (sound familiar yet?) For example:
- If you want to save $5,000 this year, set a monthly goal of $417 or a weekly goal of $96.
- Want to pay off a credit card? Focus on an extra payment each month and watch the balance shrink faster than you think.
Some months are better than others, and that’s okay- progress is still progress!
2. Create a Budget That Works for You
I used to cringe at the word “budget.” It felt restrictive, like I’d have to give up all the fun things in my life. But once I started thinking of a budget as a tool for empowerment instead of punishment, everything changed.
The 50/30/20 Rule
One of the easiest budgeting methods I’ve tried is the 50/30/20 rule:
- 50% of your income goes to needs (rent, bills, groceries)
- 30% goes to wants (dining out, shopping, entertainment)
- 20% goes to savings or debt repayment
This framework helped me see where my money was going and how I could adjust without feeling deprived.
Track Your Spending
If you’ve ever wondered, where did all my money go this month? You’re not alone. I started tracking my spending just in the notes app on my phone (but there are a bunch of dedicated apps for this as well) and it was eye-opening. Those little $5 coffees and random Amazon purchases add up fast! Seeing it all laid out helped me make smarter choices without feeling like I had to cut out everything I enjoy.
3. Pay Off Debt Like a Pro
Debt can feel like a massive weight on your shoulders, but tackling it is one of the most freeing parts of a financial glow-up. For me, paying off debt isn’t just about numbers- it’s about reclaiming my peace of mind.
Snowball vs. Avalanche Method
When I first started paying off my debts, I had to choose between two popular strategies:
- Snowball Method: Pay off the smallest debt first to build momentum
- Avalanche Method: Pay off debt with the highest interest rate first to save money in the long run.
I went with the snowball method because I love the motivation boost of seeing a balance hit zero. Pick whichever method works best for you and start chipping away at your debt- it’s all about progress!
Cut Expenses Where It Counts
Small sacrifices can make a big difference when paying off debt. For me, that meant cooking at home more often and skipping unnecessary subscription services. It’s not always fun, but seeing my balances shrink make it 100% worth it.
4. Build Wealth, Even If You’re Just Starting Out
Once you start getting your debt under control, it’s time to shift your focus to building wealth. This was something that used to intimidate me- I didn’t grow up learning about investing or savings accounts, and I always thought it was something for “later.” But later is now, so what better time to start than your glow-up era?
Open a High-Yield Savings Account
If your money is just sitting in a regular savings account, it’s not doing much for you. A high-yield savings account can earn you way more interest over time, even if you’re only putting in small amounts each month.
Learn the Basics of Investing
You don’t need to be a financial genius to start investing. Apps like Wealthsimple, Acorns or Robinhood make it super easy to dip your toes in. I started with a robo-advisor that helps manage my investments automatically, and now I feel so much more confident about growing my money.
5. Find Easy Side Hustles to Boost Your Income
Sometimes, the best way to glow up your finances is to bring in a little extra cash. During my glow-up era, I’m determined to explore side hustles that don’t take up too much time but will help me save faster and worry less about unexpected expenses.
Ideas for Side Hustles
There are so many options you can explore for your side hustle. Here are a few to get you started:
- Freelancing: If you have a skill like writing, graphic design, or social media management, freelancing can bring in serious money.
- Selling Online: I decluttered my closet and sold clothes on Poshmark, which gave me extra cash and a cleaner space.
- Surveys and Apps: While they won’t make you rich, apps like Swagbucks or InboxDollars are an easy way to earn a little extra during downtime. Alternatively, sign up to deliver for a company like UberEats or DoorDash, or buy groceries for people with Instacart.
Make It Fun
Your side hustle doesn’t have to feel like another job. Find something you enjoy, whether it’s walking dogs on Rover or creating handmade crafts to sell on Etsy. For me, the key was finding something flexible that fit into my schedule without burning me out.
6. Stop Impulse Spending and Take Control
Impulse spending used to be (and still is if I’m being honest) one of my biggest financial pitfalls. I’d scroll through online sales and convince myself I “needed” something that I’ll probably forget about a week later. To stop the cycle, I’m getting intentional about my spending.
Wait Before You Buy
Now, I use the 48-hour rule: if I see something I want, I wait two days before purchasing. Nine times out of ten, I realize I don’t actually need it.
Create a Fun Budget
Instead of cutting out fun purchases entirely, I set a monthly “fun money” budget. Knowing I can spend a set amount guilt-free keeps me from feeling deprived and helps me stick to my financial goals.
Personal Style: Finding Ways to Express Yourself
When I think about my glow-up era, one of the most exciting parts has been redefining my personal style. It’s not just about wearing trendy clothes or copying what I see on Instagram- it’s about finding a way to express who I am through what I wear. My personal style glow-up is all about discovering what makes me feel confident, learning to dress for my body type, and showing up as the most put-together version of myself. No more relying on leggings and a big sweater- it’s time to up my game!
Your personal style is a powerful part of your glow-up era. It’s a way to show the world who you are without saying a word. And while style might seem like a superficial part of life, I’ve found it’s deeply connected to my confidence, self-expression, and even how I carry myself every day.
1. Finding Your Personal Style
For years, I had no idea what my style really was. I’d buy random things that looked cute on other people, but half the time they didn’t feel like me. In my glow-up era, I’m making it a priority to figure out my unique style- it’s going to make such a difference in how I feel about myself.
Experiment With Aesthetics
The first step is giving yourself permission to experiment. Pinterest has always been my best friend, and even more so during this process. Start by pinning outfits you love, even if they don’t seem practical for your lifestyle at first. Over time, you’ll notice patterns- certain colours, silhouettes, and vibes that you keep coming back to. For me, it’s a mix of casual chic and classic pieces with a little edge (think oversized blazers, neutral tones, and statement accessories).
Define Your Style Keywords
Once you start noticing those patterns, come up with three “style keywords” that describe your vibe (chic, comfortable, edgy, polished, etc.) These words will become your guide when shopping or putting together outfits. If a piece doesn’t fit at least two of those words, it’s probably not for you.
2. Dressing For Your Body Type
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned growing up is that dressing for your body type doesn’t mean limiting yourself- it means highlighting what makes you feel amazing. For years, I tried to force myself into trends that didn’t flatter my shape, and it left me feeling frustrated and not wanting to leave the house.
Learn What Works for You
Take some time to figure out which silhouettes and fabrics work best for your body. For me, high-waisted pants and A-line dresses are staples- they accentuate my waist and balance out my proportions. I also realized that structured jackets and tailored pieces make me feel more put-together, even on casual days.
Don’t Be Afraid to Alter
One game-changer for me was discovering the power of tailoring. If something doesn’t fit quite right but I love it, I take it to a tailor. A small adjustment can make a huge difference in how a piece looks and feels.
3. Build a Wardrobe That Feels Like You
Once you start understanding your style and what works for your body, you can shift your focus to building a wardrobe you actually love. This is a big part of my glow-up era plan- I want to feel good when I look at my closet instead of overwhelmed.
Start With Basics
You don’t need a closet full of designer pieces to have great style. Focus on versatile basics you can mix and match, like:
- A well-fitted pair of jeans (take them to the tailor for the perfect fit!!)
- Neutral tops you can dress up or down
- A classic blazer or leather jacket (or both!)
- Comfortable but chic shoes (white sneakers and knee-high boots are my favourites)
From there, you can add fun pieces that show of your personality.
Purge the Closet Clutter
One of the first steps for me is to do a major closet clean-out. Ask yourself, “Does this piece make me feel good?” If the answer is no, it has to go. It will be tough at first, but letting go of things you never wear makes space for pieces you genuinely love.
4. Always Look Put-Together
One of my biggest glow-up goals is to feel put-together whenever I leave the house- even if I’m just running errands. It’s amazing how much better you feel when you take a little time to present yourself well!
The Rule of Three
A trick that will change the game for you is the “rule of three.” An outfit instantly looks more polished when you add a third piece, like a jacket, a scarf, or a statement accessory. For example, you can throw on a blazer over a basic tee and jeans, and suddenly it looks like you put in way more effort than you actually did.
Pay Attention to Grooming
Style isn’t just about clothes- it’s the whole package. During your glow-up era, pay more attention to the little details, like keeping your nails neat, wearing a signature fragrance, and styling your hair (even on lazy days!) These small things make a huge difference in how you’ll feel about yourself.
5. Shop Smarter, Not Harder
Part of my goals for my personal style glow-up era is to learn how to shop intentionally. In the past, I’d buy random pieces on sale or that I liked in the moment without thinking about how they fit into my wardrobe. I would end up with pieces that look the exact same or random items that don’t fit my vibe. Now, I want to focus on quality over quantity and only buy things I truly love.
Make a List
Before shopping, I make a list of what I need- whether it’s a new coat, comfortable heels, or an everyday bag. This keeps me from impulse buying things I’ll never wear.
Invest in Timeless Pieces
While I still love finding a good deal, I’ve learned that investing in timeless pieces is worth it. A classic trench coat or a pair of leather boots might cost more upfront, but they’ll last you way longer than that shirt from Shein.
Career Glow-Up: Build a Future You’re Excited About
When I think about my glow-up era, my career is one of the areas I’m most excited to tackle. Whether you’re looking to pivot into a new field or take your current career to the next level, stepping into your career glow-up is about creating work that feels fulfilling, exciting, and aligned with who you’re becoming.
I’ve seen firsthand how easy it is to feel stuck in a job that doesn’t inspire you or you just keep pushing through because it’s comfortable. For years, I stayed in a role that no longer aligned with what I wanted out of life because I thought I owed it to my past self to stick it out. But part of glowing up is realizing it’s okay to evolve and redefine what success looks like.
1. Clarify Your Career Goals
Before making any big changes, it’s important to get crystal clear on what you want. If you’re switching careers, ask yourself why you’re leaving your current one. If you’re levelling up, think about what you want to achieve and how that aligns with your larger goals.
Ask Yourself the Right Questions
- What is missing in my current role?
- What kind of work excites me or feels meaningful?
- How do I want my career to fit into my life- now and in the future?
When I started reflecting on these questions, I realized that my current path didn’t match the vision I had for my glow-up era. I wanted more flexibility, creativity, and alignment with my passions- things my previous role couldn’t provide. For some people, it’s not about leaving but about finding ways to grow within their existing role or organization.
Revisit and Reassess Regularly
Once you define your goals, keep them top of mind. Just like with all my other goals, I’ve started a practice of revisiting my career goals at the start of every month to track progress and adjust as needed. This ensures I’m staying aligned and making decisions that move me closer to where I want to be.
2. Upskill and Expand Your Toolbox
Whether you’re switching fields or levelling up, learning new skills is often key to unlocking the next chapter of your career glow-up.
What This Looks Like for Career Changers
If you’re transitioning to a new field, focus on identifying transferable skills. For example, if you’re leaving customer service for project management, highlight your ability to handle communication, organization, and problem-solving.
From there, explore ways to gain specific skills for your new career. When my friend decided to leave teaching to go into graphic design, she started with free tools like Canva, then invested in online courses to build her portfolio. The key is starting small and building as you go.
What This Looks Like for Levelling Up
If you’re staying in your field but want to grow, ask yourself what skills could help you stand out. Maybe it’s a certification, like becoming a certified project manager or learning new software that’s in demand. One coworker of mine boosted his career by taking a few LinkedIn Learning courses in leadership and data analysis- and it paid off when a promotion opened up.
How I’m Upskilling
For me, this has meant researching courses in publishing and creative writing- fields I want to explore further. I’ve also started dedicating 15 minutes a day to reading industry blogs and following leaders in those spaces. Even small actions like this build momentum.
3. Network Like You Mean It
Networking doesn’t have to feel awkward or forced. It’s simply about building genuine connections that help you grow and learn from others.
Reconnect With Existing Contacts
I’ve realized that one of the easiest ways to start networking is to reconnect with people you already know. When I began planning my career glow-up, I reached out to former coworkers, friends, and even family members to talk about their experiences in fields I’m interested in. Those conversations were not only insightful but also reminded me how many people are willing to help if you just ask.
Make New Connections
If you’re looking to pivot into a new field, join networking groups or attend industry events. Online communities like LinkedIn or Slack are great places to meet people who share your interests. One of my friends recently made an incredible connection at a virtual coffee chat hosted by a professional group she joined- and it ended up leading to a job interview.
4. Build Your Personal Brand
In today’s career landscape, having a personal brand can set you apart. It’s about showing the world who you are and what you bring to the table, whether you’re applying for new roles or trying to stand out in your current one.
Start With Your Online Presence
One of the first steps I’m taking is updating my LinkedIn profile to reflect where I’m headed, not just where I’ve been. I’ve also started working on a simple online portfolio to showcase my writing and blogging experience.
If you’re not sure where to start, focus on your LinkedIn. Update your headline, highlight your accomplishments, and don’t be afraid to share articles, projects, or insights related to your field. It’s a great way to build credibility and attract opportunities.
Show Up Authentically
Your personal brand doesn’t have to be overly polished- it just needs to feel like you. Whether you’re writing a cover letter, networking, or pitching yourself for a promotion, let your unique perspective and strengths shine!
5. Explore Passion Projects
Passion projects are an amazing way to add depth to your career. Whether they turn into a side hustle, a new job, or just something that makes you happy, they’re worth investing in.
For Career Changers
If you’re considering a new field, passion projects are a great way to test the waters. When I started blogging, it wasn’t about career goals- it was about expressing myself and sharing things I loved. Now, it’s becoming something I could see as part of my career glow-up.
For Levelling Up
Even if you’re staying in your current field, passion projects can help you stand out. A colleague of mine started volunteering to lead internal training sessions at her company- something that wasn’t part of her role but showed her leadership potential. She ended up getting promoted because of it!
Self-Care: Embracing Physical and Emotional Care
As I step into my glow-up era, I’m realizing just how transformative physical self-care can be. It’s not just about looking good- it’s about feeling confident and energized in your own skin. Personal hygiene, maintenance routines, and creating a soothing environment are some of the most grounding and empowering acts of self-care. For so long, I saw these things as “extras” to squeeze into a busy schedule. But now, I’m learning to prioritize them as essential rituals that help me feel more like myself.
1. Elevating Your Hygiene and Maintenance Routine
When it comes to self-care, personal hygiene and maintenance are the foundation. They’re the little things that, when done consistently, can make a huge difference in how you feel about yourself every day.
Upgrade the Basics
I’ve started putting more thought into my daily hygiene routine, making it feel less like a chore and more like a moment of care. Fore example:
- Oral Care: I’ve upgraded to an electric toothbrush, I’m using whitening toothpaste daily, I use a water flosser alongside regular floss, and I swish some mouthwash morning and night. Weekly, I’m using whitening strips, and I’ve even put on my big girl pants and scheduled a dentist appointment for the first time in a while. It sounds small, but having a bright, healthy smile instantly boosts my confidence.
- Skincare: I’ve committed to a simple morning and evening skincare routine that I actually stick to. For me, that means cleansing, applying a hydrating serum, and finishing with sunscreen during the day and a nourishing moisturizer at night.
- Showering: I’ve made my showers a more intentional part of my day. I start with a Dove bar soap, exfoliate my whole body, then finish with a shower gel that smells amazing. It’s turned this simple act into a mini refresh for both my body and mind.
Consistent Maintenance
One of the biggest shifts I’m making in my glow-up era is staying on top of regular grooming. These are the little details that can easily fall by the wayside but make a big difference when you’re consistent:
- Haircare: I cut my own hair, but if you’re not down for that make sure to schedule a trim every 6-8 weeks to keep your hair looking and feeling healthy. I’ve also started incorporating weekly hair masks for added hydration and it’s made SUCH a difference.
- Nails: Whether it’s an at-home manicure or treating yourself to a salon visit, keeping your nails clean and polished will make you feel more put together.
- Shaving or Waxing: This isn’t about pressure or perfection- it’s about doing what makes you feel your best. For me, smooth skin feels fresh and pampered, so I’ve made that a part of my weekly routine. Make sure you apply moisturizer and body oil afterwards for the ultimate smooth feeling!
2. Indulging in Spa-Like Moments at Home
A key part of my self-care glow-up will be creating spa-like experiences right at home. While I love the idea of a full-on spa day, the reality is that most of us don’t have the time or budget for that every week. Instead, I’ve found ways to recreate those luxurious moments in my own space!
Create a Weekly Ritual
I’ve started dedicating one evening a week to my “spa night.” Here’s what that looks like:
- Relaxing Shower or Bath: I’ll start with a long hot shower or bath, using a body scrub to exfoliate and a rich body wash for a pampering feel. Adding Epsom salts or essential oils to a bath makes it even more soothing.
- Full-Body Care: After my shower, I’ll take my time applying a hydrating body lotion or oil. Once a week, I’ll apply a fake tan to give me that extra glow (especially in the winter months!) Using a dry brush before showering has also become a favourite ritual- it’s great for circulation and leaves my skin feeling super soft.
- Face Masks and Treatments: This is my time to do an extra skincare step, like a clay mask for deep cleaning or a sheet mask for hydration. It feels so indulgent and relaxing!
Set the Mood
Part of what makes spa days so enjoyable is the ambiance. At home, I recreate that by dimming the lights, lighting a candle, and playing some soft, calming music. It’s amazing how these little touches can turn an ordinary evening into something special!
3. Transforming Your Environment for Better Self-Care
Your physical space has a huge impact on how you feel. In my glow-up era, I’m focusing on turning my home into a place that feels peaceful, organized, and inspiring.
Declutter and Simplify
One of the first steps I took was decluttering the areas I spend the most time in, like my bedroom and bathroom. I went through my makeup drawers and tossed everything expired or unused, reorganized my skincare products, and cleared off my bedside table. Having a clean, simplified space instantly makes me feel calmer.
Add Personal Touches
To make my space feel more like a sanctuary, I’ve been adding small details that bring me joy:
- Fresh Flowers: Who needs a partner to buy you flowers? I’ve been buying a fresh bouquet every couple of weeks and setting it on my counter to make me smile.
- Scented Candles or Diffusers: My go-to scents are eucalyptus and vanilla- they make my space feel warm and inviting.
- Cozy Textures: I swapped out my decorative throw blankets for soft, cozy ones and added a few new pillows to my couch.
Create a Routine That Centres Around Your Space
Part of my self-care glow-up has been building routines that incorporate my environment. Last year I made up an easy cleaning schedule you’ll actually follow and guess what? I’ve been following it! Having a routine that is easy and productive makes it less of a chore to keep your environment clean.
Staying Motivated and Disciplined in Your Glow-Up Era
One thing I already know about my glow-up era is that staying motivated is going to be a challenge. Motivation is tricky. It’s exciting at first when you’re setting goals and imagining how great your life will look, but it has a way of fading once the real work begins. That’s why I’m also focusing on discipline. Because as much as I’d love to rely on motivation alone, I know it won’t always show up when I need it.
Motivation gets you started, but discipline keeps you going. In my glow-up era, I’m committed to creating habits and systems that don’t rely on how I feel in the moment. It’s about showing up for myself, even on the days when I don’t want to, because I know the future version of me will thank me for it.
1. Building Discipline Over Motivation
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that discipline is more reliable than motivation. Motivation is like a spark- it’s exciting and energizing, but it doesn’t last forever. Discipline, on the other hand, is like a steady flame that keeps burning as long as you feed it.
Start Small
In your glow-up era, focus on building discipline through small, consistent actions. Instead of trying to overhaul your entire life at once, start with one or two habits that you know you can stick to. For example:
- Commit to a 15 minute morning walk, even if you don’t feel like it
- Spend 10 minutes journaling every evening, no matter how tired you are.
These little habits are easy to accomplish and will help you build the momentum you need to tackle bigger goals.
Create Non-Negotiables
I’ve realized that treating certain habits as non-negotiable makes it easier to stay disciplined. For example, I’ve decided that drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning and doing a quick stretch are non-negotiable parts of my day. It doesn’t matter if I’m tired, busy, or not in the mood- I do them because they’re part of my commitment to myself.
2. Using Systems to Stay on Track
One thing I’ve struggled with in the past is relying too much on willpower. But willpower alone isn’t enough to keep you consistent. In my glow-up era, I’m focusing on creating systems that make it easier to stick to my goals.
Plan Ahead
One of my biggest downfalls has always been waiting until the last minute to make decisions. For example, if I don’t plan my meals in advance I end up ordering takeout because it’s easier. To avoid this, plan ahead:
- Prep healthy meals on Sundays so you don’t have to think about dinner during the week
- Schedule workouts in your calendar like appointments you can’t miss
Track Your Progress
I’m a big believer in the power of tracking. Whether it’s logging workouts, saving receipts to monitor spending, or keeping a habit tracker, seeing your progress can be incredibly motivating. For me, it’s a visual reminder that even small steps can add up over time.
3. Reframing Setbacks
One thing I know I’ll have to work on during my glow-up era is my reaction to setbacks. In the past, I’d get discouraged if I missed a workout or overspent one week and end up abandoning my goals altogether. This time, I’m choosing to see setbacks as part of the process.
Focus on Progress, Not Perfection
Remember that a glow-up is not about being perfect, it’s about moving forward. If you mess up, that doesn’t mean you’ve failed. It just means you need to adjust and keep going.
Learn From Mistakes
Every setback is an opportunity to learn. If you skip a workout, ask yourself why. Were you tired, unmotivated, or too busy? By understanding what went wrong, you can make changes to avoid the same problem in the future.
Your glow-up era is about more than just looking good or ticking off goals- it’s about transforming every part of your life to align with the person you’re becoming. From mastering your mindset and building confidence to levelling up your career, self-care, and finances, this journey is all about taking control and showing up for yourself in ways that truly matter.
Remember, it’s not about perfection- it’s about progress! Some days will be harder than others, and that’s okay. What matters is that you keep moving forward, even with small steps. Every choice you make to prioritize yourself brings you closer to the best version of you.
So, let’s make this the year we stop playing small and step fully into our glow-up era! The version of you you’ve always dreamed of is waiting. You’ve got this!
