40 Beautiful Small Outdoor Patio Ideas!
My outdoor patio is my favourite place to be as soon as those warm spring days hit. I use it at all times of the day- in the morning, sitting out with my iced coffee reading a book and listening to the birds singing, in the afternoon trying (and failing) to tan instead of burn, and in the evening with a delicious cocktail (check out my favourite spring cocktails here!).
Figuring out the best way to set up a small outdoor patio can be a difficult task. You want to make the most of the space while still making sure it’s functional and not overcrowded.
If you’re in need of some inspiration to spice up your small outdoor patio this year, I have compiled over 40 beautiful ideas to help you out!
Your Own Personal Jungle
Adding a ton of greenery to your outdoor patio is a great way to decorate while giving you a ton of privacy! There are a ton of different ways you can create your own personal jungle in your space. Add planter boxes along the wall or across railings to make the most of a small area, hang flower baskets from the ceiling or hooks along the wall, and add smaller plants to tables or stools. You can up the functionality even more by planting vegetables, fruits and herbs in your flower boxes!
If you don’t have much of a green thumb, there are plenty of plants that need very little maintenance to survive, or you can skip the fuss altogether and go the fake plant route!
Mediterranean Style
It feels like whenever spring rolls around, everyone I follow on Instagram seems to be having a fun and sunny European getaway. If you’re feeling a bit of FOMO, make your own little mediterranean oasis! Warm colours, wrought iron pieces and terracotta elements are a great way to add a bit of Italian or Greek flair to your space. Wicker baskets, bright flowers and green vines are also great accessories!
Boho
Boho has been a design style for a long time, so there is a lot of inspiration to draw from! You want to look for lots of pillows with fun textures, warmer colours and patterns, lots of plants, and definitely hook up some string lights to bring in that cozy vibe! To me, a boho outdoor patio would have a lot of places to sit and a lot of different textures and elements to catch your eye.
Clean & Simple
If you’re looking for a more straightforward design, go clean and simple! Look for pieces that are more neutral, like tans and whites, which makes it a lot easier to pull the entire area together. This design style is especially great for smaller patios and if you’re on a budget- it’s a lot easier to find pieces that go together and you’re not buying too many items to overcrowd the space. Add some planters and some soft lights to finish up the space!
Monochrome
Another easy design style for your outdoor patio is monochromatic! Choose one colour and stick with it! It doesn’t have to be black or white like the pictures below (although those seem to be the more popular choices). Simply figure out which colour would work best in your space and find pieces that match! You can throw a colour or two in with some plants or a chair to add some contrast, but for the most part try to stick to that one colour!
Colourful and Bright
If you really want to spice up your outdoor patio, don’t be afraid of colours! You can choose a colour scheme or just randomize it if you want a more eccentric look. Make sure you have a bunch of fun pillows, a lot of bright flowers and some throw blankets to easily add colour to your space.
